Wandering Years Retirement Community (WYRC) is the third release from Brooklyn musician Gene Stroman (Wandering Years). The EP is a companion to 2021’s debut On Not Coming Home. Both were written and recorded in Winter 2020-21 with help from Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist Matt Schlatter (Physical Kids, io & Titan). Stylistically and lyrically, the two releases are cut of the same cloth.

The Wandering Years sound has been described as a unique blend of bedroom pop and indie folk with elements of slowcore and alt-country. Inspired by pioneers of the indie-folk and slowcore canons (Elliott Smith, Mark Kozelek, Jason Molina), WYRC features a distinctive pairing of nylon string guitar and pedal steel-esque swells, providing a beautiful backdrop for Stroman’s plaintive lyrics and melodies.

WYRC is an album that scrutinizes the dualities of adulthood - the joys and struggles of finding oneself; the bittersweet nature of settling down.
These seven songs find Stroman musing on his own identity as it relates to his new home in NYC, his marriage, career, and changing family dynamics — all against the backdrop of a global pandemic. Wandering Years Retirement Community features some of Stroman’s strongest, most mature songwriting to date, and is sure to be an ideal gateway to the wellspring of creativity in the artist’s back pocket.
